Discount Watch Store is proud to be a retailer of Longines watches. Longines was founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz in St. Imier, Switzerland. A little known fact about this company was that it was more successful in the US in the mid 1800’s than it was in Switzerland. By 1867, Longines made it’s first in-house movement – the 20A, which carried an anchor escapement, and as a pendant winder and setter system. This movement won an award at the Universal Exhibition in Paris that same year. The noted winged hourglass becomes the watches trademark, and also the world’s first registered trademark as well. Longines is the official timekeeper of many gymnastics events, and horseraces including the Royal Ascot, the Kentucky Derby, and many more. Notably, Longines is also the official timekeeper at the French Open Grand Slam at Roland Garros every year, a major tennis event held every year in France. Rolex is the timekeeper for the other three Grand Slams held in London, Melbourne, and New York.
